Seeking Your Views

Patients are central to everything that we do here at Hathaway Surgery and we are committed to providing the best possible service.  We want to continue to enhance the patient experience and ensure that we are always aware of the changing needs of those that we serve.  To make sure that this is the case we intend to set up a process designed to secure the views of every section of the diverse population that we serve.


We intend to set up what we call a “Patient Reference Group” that we hope will be representative of all our patients.  We will listen to the views and needs of this group to firstly identify areas where we can improve or develop additional services that we could provide.  Once the Patient Reference Group has identified those areas we will work on action plans to try and achieve the desired improvements or where this is not possible we will identify what barriers exist that prevent us from change.


In due course we will ask the Patient Reference Group to review our progress with the various action plans and continue to identify areas for further improvement.


We want to make the process as easy as possible for patients to participate and we envisage that the primary mechanism for gathering responses will be through the use of questionnaires.  Where patients have access to e-mail, then that will be the best communication method but for those unable or unwilling to respond on-line then post will be used. I want to stress that you do not need to have e-mail to participate.


The work load for participants will not be onerous – perhaps 6 contacts a year once we are established.  Feedback to you will be presented on the website and by occasional newsletters.


We really do want the group to be as representative as possible and we even want to include patients who are on our register but who are currently lucky enough not to have to use our services often. 


I do hope that you, other members of your family and friends registered at the practice will wish to be to be involved.  If so, please e-mail me, let me know in person or drop off the attached contact note at reception giving your name and whether you would prefer to be contacted by e-mail or by post.  All information that you give will be held outside of your medical records and will be kept totally confidential and we promise that your e-mail address will not be passed to any other persons or organisations.


I attach the aims of our Patient Reference Group and once again I do hope that you will feel able to be involved.  Even if you do decide to “sign up” you can withdraw at any time if you find that it is not for you.
